Timpanogos Library Consortium

Timpanogos Library Consortium Logo

Great news for library users! Starting April 7, 2025, the Highland City Library, along with the American Fork and Pleasant Grove libraries, will launch the Timpanogos Library Consortium (TLC). This means you'll enjoy:

  • A larger selection of books through a shared catalog.
  • Delivery of requested books to your home library.
  • Easy returns at any of the three libraries.
  • Automatic renewals for most items.
  • No more overdue fines!

To make this possible, the libraries are aligning their policies, which includes increasing the annual fee for non-residents to $90.

TLC FAQ's

Participating Libraries

Q: Which libraries are participating in TLC?

A: Currently, only Highland, American Fork, and Pleasant Grove library card holders can participate in interlibrary delivery. Lehi and Eagle Mountain library card holders can still borrow books from the other NUCLC libraries, but they must return them to the library where they were borrowed.

Q: What do you mean by a combined catalog?

A: The Highland City Library online catalog will now show items from all the TLC libraries. They will be clearly marked so you will know which library owns which item and you can request items from any of the three libraries to be delivered to your library. In addition, there will be tabs on the catalog website to link you to the other TLC library catalogs.

Q: Does this agreement include electronic resources?

A: No. This agreement only covers physical books, books on CD, and DVDs. You'll still need to use the electronic resources offered by your home library.

   Q: What about holds?

A: Card holders from each library will have priority on the hold list for items owned by their home library. You will move to the top of the hold list only if no one from the home library has the item on hold.

Item Delivery

Q: Will all library materials be delivered to my home library?

A: No. The TLC service only delivers books, books on CD, and DVDs. Other items like kits, puzzles, e-readers, Yoto cards and players, and other non-book items will not be transported.

Q: How long will it take for a requested book to arrive at my home library?

A: If the book is available (not checked out, on hold for someone else, damaged, or lost), it will arrive within 4 business days.

Q: How will I know when my book has arrived, and how long do I have to pick it up?

A: You'll receive an email notice when your book arrives. You'll have one week to pick it up before it's returned to its original library.

Q: Can I have a book delivered to a library that isn't my home library?

A: Yes, when you request a book, you can choose to which library you'd like it delivered.

Loan Policies:

Q: Will I be charged overdue fines during the extra time it takes to return books to their original library?

A: No, upon joining the TLC, Highland Library will no longer charge overdue fines.

Q: What do you mean by “automatic renewal?”

A: When you check out a Highland Library item, the original checkout period is 3 weeks.  If it is an item that is renewable, at the end of 3 weeks you will receive an email notice that your item has been automatically renewed for another 3 weeks.  If you still haven’t returned the item, it will renew twice more. That’s a total of 12 weeks you can have an item before it is considered overdue. We do, of course, encourage patrons to return items as soon as they are done with them so other patrons can use them.

Q: What items are not renewable?

   A. If someone has placed a hold on an item, it will not be automatically renewed. Also, some high demand items, including kits, e-readers, Yoto’s and Yoto Cards can only be used for one 3-week period.

Q: What happens after an item becomes “overdue?”

When an item can no longer be renewed, you will receive a notice that it is overdue. Once an item is overdue, you have another two weeks to return it.  If it is not returned in that period, it will be declared lost, and you will be charged for the item plus a processing charge.

Q: Can I pay for lost or damaged items at any TLC library?

A: You'll need to pay for lost or damaged items at the library that owns the item. However, all three libraries offer online payment options.
