Drinking Water Source Protection

The City has developed a Drinking Water Source Protection ordinance as a resource to protect our valuable ground-water resource.  Since all of Highland City's water supply comes from the underground aquifer, it is essential that we proactively do everything we can to assure that this  resource is preserved.

Currently (6) six geographical zones have been identified from which the ground-water aquifer is fed. Property within these zones have the potential of discharging contaminants that could make its way into drinking water source, including fertilizers, pesticides, pool chemicals, motor oil, and many other household items.

As a resident of Highland City, you have a vested interest in protecting our drinking water aquifer.  Your day-to-day actions through small and simple measures can have a huge impact.  Fact sheets describing the proper handling, storage, use and disposal of items considered to be potential contaminants are available for download below.  Please take a few moments to become familiar with how you can do your part.

In the event of a contaminant release at your property, immediately contact the City Engineer or Public Works Department at 801-772-4508 or 801-420-2553. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at publicworks@highlandcity.org.  Additional information can also be found on the Utah Division of Drinking Water official website.

Please help us protect our precious drinking water resources.
